Puerto Varas
Osorno Volcano, lakes and southern German heritage.
Puerto Varas looks out over Lake Llanquihue with the perfect cone of the Osorno Volcano behind it. Founded by German settlers in the 19th century, it preserves timber architecture and a strong culinary tradition. From here, excursions lead to Frutillar with its Teatro del Lago, the Petrohué Falls and the big island of Chiloé, with its UNESCO-listed wooden churches and the stilt-house towns of Castro.
