San Pedro de Atacama

The planet's driest desert and the Valle de la Luna.

San Pedro de Atacama is an adobe village at 2,400 m, surrounded by the driest desert on Earth and flanked by volcanoes over 6,000 m high. From here excursions head to the Valle de la Luna (sunset over dunes and salt flats), the Salar de Atacama with altiplano lagoons and flamingos, and the Tatio Geysers at dawn. It's also the crossing point to Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni.
